Radiology & Imaging

Imaging built into the hospital

Johannesburg Surgical Hospital is unusual in incorporating radiology as an integral part of the hospital itself — which is what makes outcome-based patient care possible.

Why It Matters

Your images live with your record

Combining our imaging suite with innovative IT integration and an industry-leading Vendor Neutral Archive makes this one of the most technologically advanced facilities in the country, providing integrated access to patient records.

In practice that means the surgeon planning your procedure, the radiologist reading your scan and the physician managing your recovery are all looking at the same images — without a disc, a courier or a repeat scan in between.

Our Modalities

What we can see, and how

Interventional Radiology

JSH is equipped with the latest x-ray imaging system for interventional radiology procedures. The system is unique in its ability to clearly view small moving objects, allowing neuro interventions to be performed with confidence. It lets our radiologists diagnose and use imaging data to plan treatment paths, ensuring optimal outcomes.

MRI Scanning

Using the latest MRI technology, the department performs routine scans faster and with greater image quality, supplemented by current software to support accurate diagnosis. Shorter scan times mean a reduced total visit time for patients.

CT Scanning

Our CT technology delivers precise imaging with the least discomfort to the patient, at lower doses of contrast and radiation. That makes it well suited to sensitive patients, and to those who are seriously ill or have reduced kidney function.

Mammogram Technology

Industry-leading mammography allows for the highest quality imaging at low radiation doses, avoiding unnecessary exposure. Our mammography supports the SJF Breast Centre on campus.

Booking a scan

Radiology bookings go through the department directly on 011 593 4499. Please bring your referral, your ID and your medical aid card. If your procedure needs authorisation, see pre-admission first.
